It is an amazing fact that the large number of emotions
that trap the human heart and that most of the times we do not know how to handle them
intelligently. When emotion control is lost, imbalances occur, so it is very
important to stop along the way, allow ourselves to think high and feel clear
to learn to make smart and timely decisions and fully enter into what Daniel
Goleman calls : Social and emotional learning.
In his book "Emotional Intelligence", Physchiatrist
Dr. Goleman tells us: "The ravages that emotional ineptitude causes in the
world are very evident. It is quite enough to open a newspaper to find the most
aberrant forms of degradation and violence,
which are not seem to respond to no logic. Today we are not amazed to hear that
a stockbroker was flown from a skyscraper after a sudden stock market crash,
that a husband hit his wife or, after being fired, an employee has entered his
company armed to take revenge and has killed several people indiscriminately.
These evidences are added to the list of violence that
plagues the planet, to the alarming increase in depression around the globe, to
the levels of stress that are on the rise and to an endless list of symptoms:
All of them account for an uncontrolled irruption from the emotions in our lives and from a general, and perhaps
increasing, ineptitude to control passions and emotional outbursts ".
So,
how do you learn to control emotions?
Keepin mind that as human beings we are exposed to trial
and error. Whoever does not spoil something, never learns better –they say- and
if we already waste a large portion of our life due to circumstances, let's
start here and now with the most elementary and very basic thing that is
learning to breathe. When you learn to breath deeply, it is the best way to
nourish our brain with oxygen, which is the raw material that our neural and
axonal networks mainly feed on.
Balanced
diet: Always Keep in mind
that food is the basic nutrients that our body needs to survive, providing
energy to anabolism and life to our physiological functioning. It also has very
important impact of course on the psychological and spiritual.
Sleep
and rest: at least Eight hours a day sleep is needed for our
cellular system to optimally replenish the energies that are spent in daily
living. Relieves tensions, fatigue, stress, low levels of anxiety and relaxes
the twelve systems of our body.
Exercise
and sport: This helps to obtain both physiological and
psychological benefits, such as: Increased physical resistance, bone density,
improvement in the circulatory system, improved blood pressure, lower levels of
stress and anxiety, better digestion, relaxation, self-esteem, mental security,
confidence, faith ... among others.
When our health and well-being are in balance, the
handling of emotions becomes more easier and better, because we have increased attention, better concentration, increased perception, more observation capacity, better
analytical reasoning, more speed in the processing of all thoughts. and
logically, a greater willingness and spirits to work on our feelings and
emotions. It is the central point from where we can start towards the best
decision-making, but with joy, with optimism, with positivism and with
objectivity.
